2014 Wraps Up, FOTS Takes 2nd Place
Last Monday the 2014 softball season came to a close with the season ending, single elimination tournament. FOTS came in as the number one seed while Goodfellas were #7 out of eight teams in the tourney and had to face the #2 team Nike in a rematch of last season's tourney elimination game for the Goodfellas.

This was a defensive battle (or you could say it was stuggling offense) from the beginning. Through 3 innings the score was 0 - 0. Goodfellas finally got on the board with 2 runs in the top of the fourth. Amazingly, they continued to hold Nike down and going into the sixth inning it was still 2 - 0. Then Goodfellas "exploded" for four runs in the top of the sixth, kickstarted by a solo blast from Brett to lead off the inning. Nike squeaked out 1 run in the bottom of the inning as Goodfellas D held up for a 6-1 victory.

Next up, FOTS kicked off their tourney against the #8 seed Hope Lutheran and pounced early. Their offense was on point as they batted all the way around and got through 2 more batters before their first at-bat was over! In the end Hope Lutheran had no answer as FOTS won 14 - 7.

This setup the semifinals with a chance for an all FBCF finals showdown, how much fun would that be?! FOTS was taking on #5 seed Southeast Church of Christ while Goodfellas were trying to find a way to beat #3 seed A-Men. Both teams stuck to a similar formula from their first game. FOTS pounced early and often as they once again batted around in the first inning. The runs came pouring in as they took care of business 17 - 2.

Goodfellas once again found themselves in a low scoring game as their offense continued to struggle while they played solid defense when in the field. After four and a half innings Goodfellas had a 2 - 1 lead. Then A-Men finally found their stroke and were able to put up 5 runs in the bottom of the fourth. Goodfellas could only muster one more run in their final at-bat as they fell 6 - 3.

This setup a FOTS vs. A-Men final. Unfortunately, FOTS bats went silent while the A-Men seemed to find their stroke. The championship game was close after the first inning where A-Men held a 2 - 1 lead. But after that the floodgates opened for A-Men and FOTS could not stop the bleeding nor respond. A-Men scored 7 in the second and another 8 in the third while FOTS luck with the bats completely ran out. A-Men took the championship with a 16 - 1 victory.

Next season should start in February, enjoy the holidays everyone!
