More sister kissing, anemic offense
Keeping this one short and sweet (perhaps sour?)....

Goodfellas came away with another tie last night as they could only muster 8 runs against Clear Lake Baptist while holding them to the same. FOTS had a hard time scoring runs in both of their games as they lost to Baybrook and the Goodfellas. The Goodfellas were able to put some good swings on the bat vs. FOTS to generate the only offense for the FBCF teams that actually looked like slow pitch softball.

Stats Highlights for Goodfellas
Best Batting Avg: Mike - .800
Best Slugging Pct: Heath - 2.200
Most RBIs: Michael - 5
Home Runs: Heath (2), Greg (1), Sumrall (1), Mike (1)
Lots of Triples: Ball, Michael, Mike, Perry, Greg, Heath, Sumrall
Most Walks: JP - 2

4 Hard Fought Games, No Wins
FOTS and Goodfellas were both in action last night and it turned out to be an exciting, but ultimately disappointing evening.

FOTS kicked things off in the "sun in your eyes" (SIYE) game at 6:30 against Clear Lake Baptist. In classic SIYE form, it was a low scoring affair. Neither team could ever get a sustained rally going, but in the end CLB's 4 run fourth inning proved to be enough to take the victory 6-5.

Next up the Goodfellas took a shot at CLB. With the sun actually behind the trees, the scoring picked up a little. Unfortunately it didn't pick up much for the Goodfellas as they only mustered 7 runs while giving up 8 to CLB in the 3rd inning alone. The final ended up 12-7.

FOTS finished their evening against a strong League City Church of Christ team. LCCC jumped out to a big lead scoring 6 runs in the first and 5 more in the second. FOTS was only able to push across one run in the same time frame so they found themselves in an 11-1 hole going into the 3rd inning. FOTS defense held LCCC to only 2 runs in the 3rd and pushed across 3 more runs to narrow the gap to 13-4. Then in the 4th inning, FOTS cranked up the D and held LCCC to no runs, giving them one final shot at a comeback. And oh boy did they put in a good effort! In what may have been their best offensive inning of the season, FOTS started cranking out hits and walks one after the other. A single and 3 walks led off the inning, scoring 1 run and loading the bases for Robeau. Robeau took advantage and blasted a triple to dead center field to push across 3 more runs making the score 13-8. FOTS were able to squeak out a couple of more runs before the rally fizzled and they eventually lost 13-10.

Goodfellas finished the evening against Baybrook Baptist in a game that had implications for the league leaders. Neither team really ever found an offensive groove and after 4 innings the game was close with Goodfellas hanging on to a 7-6 lead. Baybrook put up 4 runs in their half of the inning so Goodfellas came up in their last at-bat needing 3 to tie and 4 to win. With one out, JP and Sumrall got the ball rolling with back-to-back home runs to pull Goodfellas within one. The next play was probably the weirdest "triple" of all time. Greg hit a sharp line drive to right center. As a joke he made a big turn toward second and the fielder sort of bobbled the ball so Greg took off for second. I think what happened next is the fielder was mad at himself for messing up so he kind of let his guard down and Greg was able to use his "blazing speed" to get to 3rd before it was all said and done! Perry followed with a sacrifice fly to left center to tie the game at 10-10. Stan followed up with a single and advanced to second on a bad throw. John followed up with another single and the first baseman mis-fielded the ball and Stan was sent home. On a very close play at the plate, Stan was thrown out by the first baseman to end the game as a tie.

Goodfellas win 2, FOTS still struggling but improving
Apologies for no update last week, too much going on and I never got around to it.

Last night, FOTS and Goodfellas went at it at the Baybrook field. It was a close game through 5 innings. Goodfellas led 5-3 riding extra base hits from JP and Greg while FOTS witnessed a majestic 3 run bomb by Kyle to put their runs on the board. The 6th inning proved fatal for FOTS as they went 3-up and 3-down while Goodfellas tacked on 5 more runs and ran out the clock as the home team for a 10-3 victory.

Both teams moved over to the Webster field for their next game. Goodfellas were up first against a good League City Church of Christ team, and it was a good game! Goodfellas were the home team again and held LCCC to 0 runs through the first 2 innings. The score was 5-0 going into the top of the 3rd and LCCC finally found their stroke and punched out 5 runs to tie the game. Goodfellas couldn't answer in the bottom of the inning so it was still 5-5 going into the 4th. Goodfellas held LCCC to a goose egg again in the top of the 4th - both teams were making great defensive plays when they needed them. There were very few runs scored in this game that were not earned. Goodfellas put up 3 more in their half of the 4th and LCCC answered with 3 in the top of the 5th. So going into the bottom of the 5th with plenty of time left on the clock, the score was tied 8-8. The Goodfellas unleashed a 7 run inning on the strength of a Sumrall grand slam to take a 15-8 lead. LCCC came to bat with one last chance as time had expired during the Goodfellas scoring spree. They put a good scare into the 'Fellas but came up short as they scored 5 runs and the Goodfellas came out on top 15-13. What a game!

In the final game of the night, FOTS tried to break out of its slump against Baybrook Baptist. The good news is that FOTS were able to get a few hits and score as many runs in this game (7) as they had in the last 3 combined, however Baybrook cut the party short by putting up 12 to hold off FOTS 12-7.
