Oh what a day....TOURNEY CHAMPS!!
PDF: Final Tourney Bracket

The season finale tournament began last Monday night (10/27) and it turned out to be the beginning of something great for FBCF softball. We only had enough players to field 2 teams and most of those players were from The Goodfellas and The Fellowship of the Swing, so we forfeited out The Posse's games from the beginning. Since they were scheduled to play The Fellowship, that means The Fellowship basically got a bye into the second round on Saturday.

The Goodfellas had the tough task of facing the league champion St. Mary's. With some help from their subs, The Goodfellas were able to put a trouncing on St. Mary's a knock them into the loser's bracket right off the bat. It was a great night for the offense as The Goodfellas put up 21 runs.

In the first two games on Saturday, each team lost and dropped into the loser's bracket. The Goodfellas were able to bounce back with a win over Hope Lutheran. Next up The Fellowship were able to knock out St. Mary's in an exciting extra innings battle which set up a showdown between the two FBCF teams. However, by this time in the day, many of our players had to leave and we were down to only 13 players total between the two teams. We decided to give the Fellowship the victory and just combine forces to play as a single team. This turned out to be a great idea not only for the sake of tired players, but also was great for unity and fellowship.

So playing now as a single team, we had to beat Baybrook Baptist to get into the championship bracket. PLaying some great defense led by Kyle Robeau in left center field, we were able to pound out 10 runs which proved to be enough for the victory.

Now we had to play Clear Lake Baptist. Last year CLB was not a very good team, only winning one or two games the whole season. They made a huge turn around this year and won out through the tourney meaning all they had to do was beat us and the championship would be there's. It was a nip and tuck game until the third inning. Ben Fultz came up to bat with 2 outs and the bases loaded and delivered in a big way. Big Ben hammered a rocket over the left field wall for a grand slam. Greg followed up with a solo shot over right center and the big inning helped secure the victory.

This meant we had to play Clear Lake Baptist again for the championship since that was their first loss in the tourney. We jumped out with 3 great innings scoring 15 runs in the process. Our defense was pretty solid too holding them to 7 runs. our last two innings our bats went silent. We went 3-up and 3-down each time. However, with the large cushion held up and we pulled out the win for the championship!!

What a great day it was. We were all dead tired by the end of the day but we all agreed it was well worth it. Good times, good fellowship, good games. A great way to end the 2008 season. I'm looking forward to next year!
