A Good Week Dampened by Injuries
FBCF Softball had a good night of games yesterday. Overall we won 3 out of 4 and The Posse was able to maintain their first place status.
The Goodfellas kicked off the night by beating Clear Lake Baptist. They scored a good amount of runs and played some good defense to hold them off at the end. The Posse took on Clear Lake Baptist in the next game and got trounced. The fact that they only had 9 players on the field coupled with some great hitting by CLB in the first inning lead to a pretty nasty loss. Not to mention the offense sputtered with only 4 runs.
In the second set of games, each team was playing Hope Lutheran. The Goodfellas got the first shot at them and put up 13 runs, played great defense, and pulled of their first 2-win night of the season! The bad news is we had 2 players go down with injuries. Rick pulled a hammy and Josh may have messed up some ligaments in his knee. Keep Josh in your prayers as I received word this morning that he went to the emergency room for his injury.
In the last game of the night The Posse found an offensive rhythm and played some solid defense to pull of the victory over Hope Lutheran. Coupled with the win by The Goodfellas, The Posse maintains first place in the league after this week's games.
Remember - next week The Posse gets a bye. The Goodfellas will be playing on Tuesday night. Check the
schedule for more details.

Tough Week
FBCF had a rough time on the softball fields this week losing 3 out of 4. Poor offensive production was the main contributor. In the three losses we averaged only 4 runs per game. The Posse was able to pull out the lone victory of the week by busting out for 15 runs in their last game.
There is a silver lining though. Rick joined The Goodfellas this week and it turns out he can pitch! So now both teams have a good backup pitcher in case the starters are unable to make it. Plus Rick is just a blast to hang out with so that just ups the fun factor for us each week.
Also a major shout out to all our fans who keep coming out and cheering like crazy. It is awesome having all of you out there each week. Thanks for your support!!

The Posse remains unbeaten
Last night was the first FBCF vs. FBCF clash of this season and it was a defensive doozy (or a pathetic offensive showing....take your pick). The Goodfellas were the home team and had a chance to win it in their last at bat but just could not push the runs across. The Posse won the game 5-4.
In other games, The Posse won their earlier contest pretty handily. They started slowly but had one big breakout inning to put the game out of reach. The Goodfellas had a poor defensive showing in their second game and ended up giving away a tie. The other team was the home team and they pushed across several runs in their last at bat to get the tie. There was a lot of overthrows and just poor defensive strategy that allowed them to score so much. In the end Joel made a diving tag on a runner at 3rd base to get the 3rd out and preserve the tie.
All in all it was a fun time even though it was hot Hot HOT!! Next time we have an intra-church contest, you should come out and catch the game. Everyone that comes seems to have a lot of fun and its great fellowship. See you there!

Week 2 in the books
The Goodfellas came out swinging the bats strong in their first game Monday night. They pushed across 14 runs and cruised to their second victory of the season. Game 2 was a little tougher. A stretch of 8 consecutive outs stalled the offense despite 3 home runs from the good guys, including 2 in back to back at bats from Shane. In the end they lost on the last at bat by one run.
The Posse's games got postponed due to a National Night Out event being held at the park tonight.
Next week will be the first showdown of the new season between The Goodfellas and The Posse. If you can make it out to the ballpark Tuesday night you should be in for some fun times.

New Season Off and Running!
We played our first games of the new season Monday and Tuesday. Team 1 was in action on Monday and Team 2 took the field on Tuesday. Both teams did very well for themselves.
Despite not having a pitcher on Monday, Team 1 was able to pull a split of their games. John Ellisor filled in at pitcher with Mason Mays helping out some in game two. They would have easily won both games if they would have had a good pitcher. As it was, they won the first game on a walk-off grand slam by Matt Mays. They lost the second game on a walk-off 3 run shot by the opposing team.
Team 2 came out swinging the bats well and pulled off a victory in both of its contests. Both games were won fairly easily. Great defense (behind the excellent pitching of Eric Rumbaugh) helped hold the other teams to 4 and 5 runs in each game respectively. As for the offense, in game one they generated 12 runs and then turned it up a notch for 16 runs in the second game.
All in all we had a great time both nights. Several new faces have some on board to help each team and we look forward to another fun year of bat swinging and ball slinging.
